BRUCE EARLES
PLACEMAKERS
Opening 17th June
Experience the visual delights of distinguished Australian painter Bruce Earles in his latest exhibition Placemakers, on show at Linton and Kay Contemporary.
Making his mark on the contemporary art scene since the late 70’s, Victorian based Earles has long been held in high regard by both the national and international artistic communities. An early member of the renowned Roar collective during the 1980’s, he has made an impressive contribution to the modern Australian art movement. Combining a visionary eye and engagingly distinctive stylistic technique, the artist captures his uniquely infectious enthusiasm on canvas, seeing him hotly pursued by art lovers, investors and curators alike.
Earles continues to retain the passion and energy of his heady beginnings whilst critiquing the cultural dimensions of our environment. Having spent his artistic career seeking to dispel societal myths, his earlier works were indicative of the hedonistic duality of the 80’ as they depicted the pursuits of leisure and industry as not necessarily mutually exclusive. While his pursuit of a ‘joie de vivre’ has remained unchanged over the years, Placemakers charts his evolution as the artist’s new patience for detail is revealed. The fresh treatment of his subject matter see’s a definite shift towards a more organic palate and spatial motif, along with new depictions of landscape and a phemenological gradient – thus rendering Placemakers an exhibition that captivates both the mind and eye.
