Rob Forlani’s exhibition, ‘Undercurrent’, features new paintings that mark a change from past works. Forlani references more figurative elements within sgraffito marks, under layers of pigment applied richly and lusciously to the canvas. He continues to use his trademark palette of clear blues, deep cadmium reds, magenta and orange in glowing colour fields defined by bold carbon marks. ‘Undercurrent’ features new works that are increasingly organic as the symmetry of his past life is left behind. Forlani’s last exhibition paid homage to the Abstract Expressionists of the 40’s and 50’s, including Jackson Pollack and Hans Hoffman. The new works reflect a broader interpretation of this genre and include references to his travel experiences. Rob has established himself on the international art circuit with participation in New York’s prestigious “Out From Down Under and Beyond” exhibition at Agora Gallery in 2005. In 2006 he held a solo exhibition, “Essential Abstracts”, to open San Francisco’s renowned interior store, Zinc Details, and another solo at Art Moderna i Gallerier in Stockholm. His work is held in a growing number of collections in Australia and abroad, including the City of Stirling, Princess Margaret Hospital and the ANZ Bank.
