In all of the locations I visit for inspiration in Australia I have a strong feeling that I am travelling into “Ancient Landscapes”, hence the title of this exhibition.
As my dear friend, Ngarrindjeri Elder, George Trevorrow said in his opening speech at an exhibition of mine, “I feel Peter is right on the verge and he is looking into something that is very very old, traditional and very cultural for our aboriginal people."
George is correct, I really do feel a spiritual emotion and sense of connection to the land which gives me great energy and inspiration to translate what I encounter. I am constantly stimulated by majestic rugged mountains, vast expanses of salt plains, deserts and rainforests, as well as iconic trees such as the eucalyptus and boabs and since I always encounter the presence of birds and other creatures when I am alone in nature, I often incorporate in my work some of those I have come across such as the owl which I feel gives me the wisdom to see the world with a deeper sense of respect.
